Best Presidents Day Sales on Large Appliances

The 36-inch, budget-friendly GE GSS25GYPFS has dropped $100 since last week. It is a strong performer in our tests, with a top score for thermostat performance and strong scores for temperature uniformity and ease of use. It also receives satisfactory scores for energy efficiency and noise output. This GE has a stainless steel finish and features an icemaker, a through-the-door water and ice dispenser, a built-in water filter, and digital temperature controls. In our latest member survey, GE side-by-sides received a very good rating for predicted reliability but a poor rating for owner satisfaction.

The GE GZS22IYNFS, $100 less than last week, is a 36-inch-wide side-by-side stainless steel refrigerator that performs well in most of our tests. It receives a top-level score for thermostat performance and very good scores for ease of use and temperature uniformity. However, it receives just satisfactory ratings in our energy efficiency and noise tests. As for features, it includes a built-in water filter, a through-the-door ice and water dispenser, and digital temperature controls. It also has edge-to-edge shelves and full-coverage LED lighting.

While technically 32 inches wide, the budget Whirlpool WRS321SDHZ will fit perfectly in a 33-inch space. Equipped with an external water/ice dispenser, digital temperature controls, and gallon-sized storage bins on the doors, this low-priced Whirlpool hit our thermostat performance test out of the park. This side-by-side refrigerator also earns a solid rating for temperature uniformity and midlevel ratings for noise output and ease of use. But it receives unfavorable ratings for energy efficiency and icemaker performance, and a poor rating for crisper drawer performance. In our latest surveys, Whirlpool side-by-sides receive a midlevel rating for predicted reliability but a poor rating for owner satisfaction. Lowe’s has an extra impressive price right now.

The LG LHSXS2706S is a sleek, 36-inch-wide side-by-side with plenty of convenient features, including a through-the-door water/ice dispenser, a built-in water filter, a second icemaker that creates round ice cubes for cocktails (LG calls it Craft Ice), spillproof shelves, and WiFi connectivity to adjust fridge settings from your phone. In our lab tests, it receives excellent scores for thermostat performance and noise output, and very good scores for temperature uniformity, energy efficiency, and ease of use. However, the refrigerator receives a subpar score for icemaker performance and a poor score for crisper drawer performance. LG side-by-sides also receive decent scores for predicted reliability and owner satisfaction in our latest member surveys.

The 28-inch Samsung RT16A6195SR turns in solid, above-average performance among top-freezers, notching our highest possible scores for thermostat control, temperature uniformity, and energy efficiency, while earning a middling rating for noise. (Ease of use gets a less-than-satisfactory rating, but that’s typical for top-freezers.) Features are scarce here, per the norm, but it does come with gallon storage on the door and spillproof shelves. In our member surveys, Samsung top-freezers received an exemplary score for predicted reliability but just a passable one for owner satisfaction. This model has an optional icemaker. It’s now $50 less than last week.

The LG LT18S2100W delivers strong performance all around, and given its price, it’s also an incredible bargain, especially since Lowe’s has dropped its price by $30, marking a new low. The other retailers have increased their price $20 since last week. This refrigerator, 28 inches wide, garners stellar ratings for energy efficiency and thermostat control, and it’s also a great performer when it comes to temperature uniformity and noise output, making it one of the quieter top-freezers we’ve tested. But this model receives our lowest rating for ease of use. In surveys of our members, LG top-freezers got a top-notch rating for predicted reliability and a middling score for owner satisfaction.

The 28-inch-wide Samsung RT70F18LRSR is the best top-freezer in our ratings. It receives excellent scores for thermostat performance, temperature uniformity, and energy efficiency, as well as a very good score for its low noise output. But it receives a subpar score for ease of use and a poor score for crisper drawer performance. The refrigerator features a stainless steel finish, an optional icemaker (sold separately), digital temperature controls, and WiFi connectivity to control the fridge from your smartphone. And it’s Energy Star-certified. In our latest member surveys, Samsung top-freezers receive an excellent score for predicted reliability and a midlevel score for owner satisfaction.

The 30-inch LG LTCS20030S is a high-quality top-freezer refrigerator that excels in thermostat performance and energy efficiency, receiving top-level scores in both tests. It also boasts very good temperature uniformity and receives a middling score for noise output. But it falls short in ease of use, earning a subpar rating, and its crisper drawer receives a poor rating, meaning it won’t keep produce fresh for very long. It comes equipped with an icemaker (though its performance is less than satisfactory), digital controls, and spillproof shelves, but it lacks a built-in water filter and water dispenser. In our latest member surveys, LG top-freezers receive an excellent score for predicted reliability and a midlevel score for owner satisfaction.

The 33-inch LG LRTLS2403S has an outstanding energy-efficiency rating and very good scores for thermostat performance, temperature uniformity, and noise output. It receives decent performance scores for its crisper drawers and icemaker. But it falls short in our ease-of-use test. This refrigerator comes with a built-in water filter and spillproof shelves. In our latest member surveys, LG top-freezers receive an excellent score for predicted reliability and a midlevel score for owner satisfaction.

The budget-friendly 28-inch Frigidaire FFHT1425VV is a great top-freezer fridge for performance. Right now, the price is only $30 more than it was during the last big sale. It’s extremely energy-efficient, and it garners solid scores in all other tests except ease of use, where it receives an unsatisfactory rating (although that’s similar to many other top-freezers). According to our latest member survey, Frigidaire top-freezers are reliable but have poor owner satisfaction.

The LG WM3400CW is already quite inexpensive even when it’s not discounted, and the sale price is $30 less than last week’s. Given its performance, it’s a smart buy and an environmentally friendly choice. You still get exceptional washing performance along with water and energy efficiency. But this model isn’t particularly gentle on fabric, so you might want to try the delicate cycle for your best threads. This washer’s claimed capacity is 4.5 cubic feet, and its cycle time is 105 minutes.

Overall, the Electrolux ELFW4222AW, which is now $100 more than the best price we’ve seen, does very well across CR’s tests. Its washing performance and water efficiency are excellent, and its energy efficiency, gentleness on clothes, and vibration levels during its 65-minute operation earn very good ratings. Based on CR members’ responses from our most recent surveys, Electrolux got an excellent score for predicted reliability. (Electrolux and LG are the only companies with a compact washing machine that achieves this rating.) But its owner satisfaction score was only adequate.

One of the most budget-friendly top-load agitators in our tests, the LG WT7005CW is now the best price we’ve seen in nearly a year. This eco-friendly Green Choice washer isn’t the gentlest on clothes, but it conserves energy and water. It’s among the quietest models in our tests and causes little to no vibration, meaning it won’t disturb you with rumbling. The cycle time is 70 minutes using the normal-wash, heavy-soil setting. Shorten it by using the normal soil setting whenever possible.

We expect the LG WM4000HWA to clean like a champ, comparable to its tested but now-discontinued brandmate, the LG WM3900HWA. That model takes it easy on your energy bill and the environment, earning a Green Choice leaf for its stellar washing performance, excellent energy and water efficiency, and U.S. manufacture. Its normal/heavy wash time is 85 minutes, relatively speedy for a front-loader. With a claimed capacity of 4.5 cubic feet, it can tackle big loads (even a king-size comforter). It also features an extra rinse cycle to help wash away any residue.

You’ll notice that the LG Signature WM9900HSA features a minimalist design, but at nearly $2,100 at full price, it may sock your wallet. This is the most expensive front-loader in our ratings by far, about $700 more than the next priciest model, making this discount worth a look. The new Signature retains the outstanding performance and large 5.8-cubic-foot capacity, making it the roomiest front-loader in our tests. In fact, it receives top scores across the board in terms of washing performance, energy efficiency, and water efficiency. But it’s not as gentle on clothes as some other machines, and it vibrates somewhat during its long 2-hour wash cycle. At 41 inches tall and 33 inches deep, it’s also larger than the standard-size front-loader, so measure your space carefully before making a purchase.

The LG WT8405CW is the top-rated top-load agitator washer in our ratings. Don’t be scared off by its long 90-minute tested wash cycle; it offers excellent cleaning performance and water efficiency, and a very good energy rating. (It also qualifies as a CR Green Choice.) Top-load agitators tend to be rough on clothes, and this one is no different. We also found it a tad noisy, but with its excellent vibration score, you won’t feel it rumbling. It has a 5.3-cubic-foot capacity, which can easily handle large loads, including comforters. It features a stainless steel tub, auto detergent dispensers, an extra rinse cycle, and remote WiFi access, allowing you to track the timing of your loads from anywhere. LG agitator washers get an excellent reliability score and a midlevel satisfaction score in our member surveys.

The top-rated LG DLE3400W is just $30 more than the last big sale. We expect it to perform similarly to the CR-tested LG DLEX3700W (now discontinued). The tested model delivers solid performance across the board, nabbing an ace rating for noise and ratings near the top in our drying and convenience tests. This stackable Energy Star certified machine, with a claimed capacity of 7.4 cubic feet, is equipped with a moisture sensor, an extended tumble, custom programs, and an end-of-cycle signal—offering all these features at a fairly low price.

The LG DLGX5501W is $150 less than last week, and it offers great performance and some nice extras at a moderate price. It is down to the best price we’ve seen in nearly a year. It scores admirably in our tests for drying performance, convenience, and noise, and offers a steam option, extended tumble, and WiFi capability—and it’s our top-rated dryer. Its stainless steel drum has a 7.4-cubic-foot capacity. In our surveys, CR members ranked LG gas dryers at the top for both reliability and owner satisfaction.

The sleek, black LG DLEX4080B is expected to perform as well as its discontinued brandmate, the LG DLEX4500B, placing it second in Overall Score among our electric dryers. Its drying performance is actually better than that of the top-rated LG DLE3400W, and it boasts a range of features, including a moisture sensor, a steam option, a duct block indicator, WiFi connectivity, and an extended tumble cycle. It’s also an eco-friendly Green Choice model. It’s an all-around great performer, earning our second-highest scores for noise and convenience. You might also consider the LG DLEX4000W or the LG DLEX4200W, two similar electric Green Choice dryers from LG. They perform comparably but lack stainless steel drums, which resist damage better than plastic and painted metal drums.

The high-performing LG Signature DLEX9900S is pricier than other LG electric dryers, but it comes with numerous extras that make laundry day easier. First, its 9-cubic-foot drum (the largest in our ratings) can handle any family-sized load. It features extras like a moisture sensor, a steam option, extended tumble, and WiFi connectivity. But what sets this dryer apart is AI-sensing technology that optimizes drying times, and a TurboSteam cycle that refreshes clothes and combats odors. Aside from its 56-minute cycle time, its de-wrinkle option can tumble clothes for up to 3 hours after the cycle ends. You can also operate the machine remotely via its ThinQ app. One thing it lacks, however, is a duct blockage indicator, so it’s essential to keep close tabs on duct maintenance.

Best Buy’s compact Insignia NS-CZ70WH0 is a champ at keeping a set temperature, and its thermostat is spot-on. Your food will survive a moderately long power outage, and this small chest freezer runs quietly. Energy efficiency is near the top of our ratings, but some larger chest freezers are even more efficient.

The budget-friendly LG LDFC2423V is now $50 more than it was during Labor Day, but it’s still a big discount. It got dinged in our member surveys for its middling reliability and satisfaction scores, but it has a lot going for it, starting with its stellar washing performance. It’s also considerably less expensive than the Bosch models that dominate this category. This model is also fairly quiet when running and has some of the design perks that make life a lot easier, like a soil sensor, an adjustable upper rack, adjustable tines, and a time-remaining display. That said, its drying performance is just okay.

The Whirlpool WDTA50SAKZ dishwasher is already one of the best options under $1,000, and it’s only $30 more than the best price I’ve seen all year. It’s a strong performer, with a third rack and an upscale look for the price, including integrated controls. Whirlpool also earned a very good rating for predicted reliability and a midlevel score for owner satisfaction based on data from our reader surveys. It’s similar to lower-end models from KitchenAid, which is also owned by Whirlpool.

Bosch dishwashers have always performed well in our tests, and several of the company’s models sit at the top of our ratings, including the SHP9PCM5N.

This model belongs to Bosch’s Benchmark series, which includes the brand’s most expensive and feature-packed dishwashers, including WiFi capabilities and an accompanying app. It does a very good job of both washing and drying, and it’s especially quiet. It has many of the features you’ll find in higher-end dishwashers, like an adjustable upper rack, a third rack, and adjustable tines, which help it earn high marks for ease of use. It also has an indicator on the front that shows the remaining cycle time, as well as Bosch’s new motorized wash arm, which spins on its own rather than being pushed by water pressure from the jets.

It’s also one of the few models in our ratings to earn a Green Choice label, a Consumer Reports designation that highlights the most environmentally friendly appliances based on our assessments. 

The Bosch 800 Series SHX78CM5N has many of the same features as the company’s Benchmark model, including an adjustable upper rack, a third rack, a stainless steel interior, adjustable tines, a motorized spray arm, and WiFi capability. This model also performs similarly, scoring very well in both our washing and drying tests while being about as quiet as the Benchmark model. What it lacks are the subtle upgrades that give the Benchmark a better ease-of-use score. The front of the dishwasher doesn’t have interior lighting, and there’s no built-in water softener or time-remaining indicator. Its third rack has less room and is less flexible than the Benchmark’s. 

The LG LFCS22520S French-door refrigerator receives stellar ratings for thermostat performance and temperature uniformity, and impresses in our tests for noise output. This 30-inch-wide LG also receives midlevel scores for energy efficiency, ease of use, and icemaker performance, but it receives a poor score for its crisper drawer performance. This model comes with digital controls, a door-open alarm, an icemaker, and spillproof shelves, but it lacks a built-in water filter. LG French-door refrigerators also earn middling predicted reliability and owner satisfaction scores in our latest member surveys. The 33-inch GE GNE25JYKFS is $50 more than it was last week. It’s a strong performer with a ton of useful features. In our tests, it receives excellent scores for thermostat performance and temperature uniformity, great scores for energy efficiency and ease of use, and satisfactory scores for its noise output (it’s not the quietest fridge but also not the loudest), icemaker performance, and crisper drawer performance. Its many features include an internal water dispenser, a built-in water filter, spillproof shelves, uniquely adjustable shelves that you can raise and lower without removing food, split shelves for better organization, and digital temperature controls.

The 33-inch-wide LG LF25H6330S is now $400 less at Home Depot than the best price we saw last year, but it matches the discounts for the last few holiday weekends. It does very well in our lab tests, receiving top scores for thermostat control and temperature uniformity, very good scores for low noise output and ease of use, and a midlevel score for energy efficiency. This WiFi-enabled fridge features a stainless steel finish, an icemaker, a through-the-door water/ice dispenser, a built-in water filter, split shelves for better organization, and digital temperature controls. In our latest member survey, LG French-doors received midrange scores for predicted reliability and owner satisfaction.

The 30-inch-wide Midea MRF18B4AST receives an excellent score for thermostat performance in our tests, meaning it can hit the desired temperature and hold that temperature consistently. It also runs quietly and efficiently and keeps temperatures consistent, earning very good noise, energy-efficiency, and temperature uniformity ratings. However, it receives subpar scores for ease of use and crisper drawer performance. This model doesn’t come with a lot of features—no icemaker, built-in water filter, or spillproof shelves—but those omissions make this model one of the most budget-friendly French-door models in our ratings. 

The LG LREL6321S single oven is an exceptionally strong performer at a great price, especially since it’s $100 less than it was during the last big sale. It heats fast and simmers steadily on top of the stove, earning an excellent performance rating in our cooktop high and low tests. It also bakes and broils evenly. There’s no convection mode, but you’ll find a warming element, along with two high-powered burners on the cooktop. LG earned high reliability ratings for its electric ovens based on our member surveys.

The Samsung NE63A6751SS lands just behind the other double-oven ranges we’ve tested in overall performance but still has plenty to offer—and it’s reasonably priced, too. This range scores admirably in just about every test, notably earning top ratings for low heat, baking, and oven capacity. Among other handy features, there’s a convertible oven that can be partitioned to work as either a single- or double-oven model, a convection mode in both ovens, and an air-fry setting.

The sleek slide-in GE Profile PGS930YPFS offers performance on a par with other top competitors. More importantly, GE gas ranges were among the most reliable of any brand in our member surveys. In addition, the top of the stove performance is admirable—heating fast and maintaining steady simmers—as is the oven performance, earning solid scores for both baking and broiling. This range comes with features like an integrated griddle burner, convection, and WiFi connectivity.

The top-rated GE Profile PGB965YPFS is now $100 more than it was last week. In addition to convection and air-frying modes, this range has continuous grates, a griddle, two high-power burners, and WiFi connectivity. It’s also a stellar performer, holding steady simmers and baking beautifully, all while offering exceptional reliability. But broiling is just so-so, and the self-clean cycle isn’t as effective as it could be, so you’ll still need to do some scrubbing. If you want the sleek look of a slide-in, consider the GE Profile PGS960YPFS. It has front-mounted controls; we haven’t tested the PGS960YPFS but expect it to perform almost identically to the tested model.

The stainless steel LG WSEP4727F receives excellent ratings from our baking and broiling tests. It also has adequate capacity and self-cleans well. The model comes with a temperature probe, as well as convection and air-fry modes. You can control the oven from the glass touch panel or from your smartphone. In our member surveys, LG electric wall ovens received solid scores for predicted reliability and owner satisfaction.
