BMW Z3 First Drive
Introduction
This model includes the Z3 roadster and coupe versions in both standard and higher-performance M versions. A standard stability-control system in the Z3 helps rein in the car's once-twitchy rear end. The ride is firm but not too punishing--compliant by sports-car standards. The five-speed manual shifts crisply, and braking is excellent. Those who fit the deeply contoured seats should find them comfortable and supportive. A 2.5-liter, 184-hp in-line Six is now the base engine. The 3.0-liter Six puts out 225 horses but adds thousands to the car's price. The M models have just been reintroduced with a stronger new engine.
