Park These Recalled Jeeps Outside Due to Fire Risk

Some Wranglers and Gladiators have a faulty power steering component that can catch fire even if the vehicle isn't running

Jeep is warning owners of more than 107,000 Wrangler SUVs and Gladiator pickup trucks from the 2021 through 2025 model years to park outside until a free recall repair is completed. A fault in the power steering system could start a fire even when these Jeeps are parked and turned off.

MORE ON RECALLS

The recall follows an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration into reports of vehicle fires, including one that resulted in an injury. The automaker traced the problem to a manufacturing fault with the electric hydraulic power steering pump, which could overheat and cause a fire. Owners may also notice a power steering system warning on the display behind the steering wheel.

To fix the problem, Jeep dealerships will inspect and, if necessary, replace the faulty component free of charge. The automaker says that until the fix is completed, owners should park their vehicles outside and away from structures.

This recall is unrelated to several similar “park outside” warnings involving plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) from Jeep, Chrysler, and other automakers owned by Stellantis, including another recall issued today for nearly 20,000 Chrysler Pacifica PHEVs.
