Introduction
2027 Volkswagen Atlas Grows Longer, Gets Upgrades to the Driver Assistance System, and Premium Features
Volkswagen says the more powerful engine should also be more fuel-efficient, and teases a hybrid version in the futureOverview
The redesigned 2027 Volkswagen Atlas retains its boxy shape and roomy interior while adding premium and family-friendly features, along with a more powerful turbocharged engine, updates that should keep it competitive in the midsized three-row SUV class.
Volkswagen says the second-generation Atlas is just one inch longer than the outgoing model, and that all other dimensions remain the same. This should maintain the roomy interior that has been an Atlas strength.
Power comes from a new 282-hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is paired with an eight-speed automatic. Both front- and all-wheel drive will be available.
Consumer Reports plans to anonymously purchase a new Atlas as soon as it goes on sale, so we can put it through our vehicle testing program.
Full details on pricing and specifications will be announced closer to the Atlas’s fall on-sale date.
It competes with the Chevrolet Traverse, Ford Explorer, GMC Acadia, Honda Pilot, Hyundai Palisade, Jeep Grand Cherokee L, Kia Telluride, Mazda CX-90, Subaru Ascent, and Toyota Grand Highlander.
The estimated price range is $40,000-$55,000.
It goes on sale in Fall 2026.
