    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen freezes up

"On start up, intermittently the center screen would freeze. Sometimes clearing in a few minutes, other times creating a white screen."

Anonymous, WI (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)

"The car periodically wont go into gear. Fix requires you to use the secondary staring method."

    Anonymous A., WA (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Display screen goes blank

"Problem started soon after purchase. Display would randomly go blank, seemed to be infotainment system crashing. It tended to happen several times over a week or so, then would go for a couple of months before happening again. The smaller steering column display would generally not go blank, but would switch to some kind of inverse video mode until the system recovered. There was eventually a recall notice, and I had a software update done at the dealer about 2 months ago. So far the problem has not recurred."

Anonymous, OR (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)

""The display screen on the info-tainment and the heads up display went black for several minutes while driving two times in the past year and a half. The over the air update seemed to fix it. The update was only a few months ago and the problem was a pretty rare occurrence, so it is hard to know if the problem is fully resolved.""

Anonymous, WA (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)

""Seems like the software is not optimized yet, a recall and update of the software did not improve things""

    Anonymous A., NJ (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)

"screen goes blank and you must stop the car and shutdown then restart."

    Anonymous A., WA (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)

"Every few months the screen goes blank and we have to turn off/on the system to reset it."

Anonymous, CA (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)

""For 3 days all the screens went inexplicably blank. I had no gauges, such as speed, state of charge, etc. I was unable to use climate controls or the infotainment system. One morning after charging the screens reappeared. I believe this was part of a software recall which I recently received an update for during a routine service.""

    Anonymous A., NM (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)

"3 times display screen went completely blank when driving. Took it to the dealer the first time and they told me there wasnt any identifiable problem. The second time I took it in they were able to fix it"

Anonymous, CA (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)

""Driving on expressway (at highway speeds), both in-vehicle displays went blank. In a few seconds, the steering wheel display came back on in a basic backup mode showing little more than an analog-looking speedometer. It was a couple of minutes before the infotainment screen came back on and the steering wheel display reverted to its normal digital full-of-information display format.""

Anonymous, AZ (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Hardware replacement

    "See earlier statemen"

    Anonymous A., WA (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"For more than a year GPS didnt worktook it in 4 times to dealer. Driver assist was giving wrong speed limit and showed me driving in the ocean"

Anonymous, CA (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)

    "Often completely wrong directions"

Anonymous, CO (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"The car would get confused about driver settings, including climate, seat position, and interior lighting. It would present a message that new settings were available (from where I don't know) and my choices were Apply, Cancel, or ignore the message. No matter which I did, various settings would get changed. This would happen 5-6 time over the course of a day or two, then go for several weeks before happening again. I discovered others were having this problem on a VW forum, and eventually someone posted about a technical service bulletin for the issue that was never publicized. When I had the dealer perform a software update for an unrelated recall 2 months ago, I told them to also apply an update for this service bulletin. So far it hasn't happened again."

Anonymous, OR (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Over-the-air software update failed

"Software update failed and required the replacement of two electronic elements to regain connection to Volkswagen. The routine update required the car to remain with the dealer for over six weeks"

    Anonymous A., WA (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Radio

"Excessive power up time, with satellite radio not being available."

Anonymous, WI (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Speakers

"When I adjusted the bass to say +5 and the volume at half, I would get a distorted sound. I wish they offered a nice sound system"

    Anonymous, (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Steering wheel controls

""Not having physical buttons is atrocious. Only car Ive ever had where up is not volume up its precious track. Right is volume up. Whoever thought of this, and whoever signed off on it should be banned from making decisions for a while""

    Squeaks or rattles

"Just had a service for 3 recalls at the dealership. I asked them to check for noise in the front end et they end up changing the 2 links kit at just over 25000 km. From what I found out on the Facebook VW ID4 owner group it is a common problem for many of us. Really amazing that this parts needs to be changed at suck a low km."

    Anonymous A., QC (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)

"For the longest time the car was making a grunting sound. Later we found out that it was the Climate control. Once I turned it off the noise went away."

    Anonymous, (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
