About 68 percent of adults in the U.S. wear prescription eyeglasses, according to a 2024 survey by The Vision Council, a nonprofit trade association for the optical industry. If you’re one of them, you want to be sure those glasses are effective, comfortable, durable, and attractive.

That’s why Consumer Reports set out to determine which in-person and online glasses stores deliver the goods.

Our Fall 2025 survey collected responses from 58,435 CR members about their prescription eyeglass purchases in the previous two years. Respondents provided feedback on the retailers they used to purchase their glasses, answering questions about the quality of the product, the price, customer service, care taken to fit glasses, follow-up service, store policies, selection, and more.
