BMW’s midsized SUV is redesigned for the 2027 model year. The standard engine remains a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, but the engine now makes 394 hp, a nearly 20-hp jump over the previous generation. The X5 plug-in hybrid, 50e xDrive, comes from a 308-hp, 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine and a 194-hp electric motor, for a combined output of 483 hp. The first all-electric X5, the iX5 60 xDrive, has an estimated driving range of 435 miles. It uses dual electric motors, producing a combined 570 hp and providing all-wheel drive. The exterior takes styling cues from the X3 SUV, with large, flat wheel arches and narrow headlights that form four X’s. Bigger changes are inside, where the driver’s gauge cluster has been replaced by a slim panoramic screen that sits at the base of the windshield and stretches its width, working in conjunction with the standard 3D head-up display and 17.9-inch center touchscreen. The all-wheel-drive X5 40 xDrive goes on sale in late 2026. The rear-drive X5 40, 50e xDrive, and iX5 60 xDrive arrive in early 2027. A V8-powered M version arrives in late 2027.
